Song of the Month for September: "Jesus Is Mine"

SOTM 2020-9 blog

Those who attended our worship service yesterday (September 6) were introduced to our song of the month for September as we sang it together. "Jesus Is Mine" was written by Matt Merker, Jordan Kauflin, and Keith Getty. It is a song that is based on the hymn "Fade, Fade Each Earthly Joy" by Catherine J. Bonar, the wife of one of the greatest Evangelical Scottish preachers and hymn writers, Horatius Bonar. This song highlights not only our knowledge of Christ but our being known by Him both here and in eternity and was originally written in 1843-1844 before being re-written and put to new music in 2018.

I encourage you all to listen to this beautiful song as it is performed by Jordan Kauflin and Matt Merker by clicking on the link and following along with the lyrics provided below.

Fade, fade, each earthly joy;

Jesus is mine.

Stronger than fleeting hopes,

Jesus is mine.

Dark is the wilderness,

Earth has no resting place,

Jesus alone can bless;

Jesus is mine.

In days of fragile peace,

Jesus is mine.

Through tearful nights of grief,

Jesus is mine.

His voice commands the storm,

His presence stills my soul,

He will sustain my hope;

Jesus is mine.

Jesus is mine,

Jesus is mine,

When all else fails, He still remains;

Jesus is mine.

When on that final day,

Jesus is mine;

Before his radiant face,

Jesus is mine.

Safe in his arms I’ll cling,

Praising my Savior King,

Forevermore I’ll sing:

“Jesus is mine.”
