Song of the Month for March: "Here Is Love"

SOTM 2021-03 blog

As we enter a new month, we do so, as usual, with a new song! The song that we have chosen to introduce and sing each Sunday this month is a song from the 1800's that was originally written in Welsh and was actually considered to be the "love song of the Welsh revival."

"Here Is Love" has a fascinating history and is one that I would encourage you all to read:

The version of this song that we will learn this month at Grace is a newer version that was written by Steve and Vikki Cook in 2002 under Sovereign Grace Music. As usual, for your personal and family enjoyment, here is a video of the song; below that are the lyrics.

LYRICS

VERSE 1

Here is love wide as the ocean
Loving kindness as a flood
When the Prince of Life, our ransom
Shed for us His precious blood
Who His love will not remember?
Who can cease to sing His praise?
He can never be forgotten
Throughout Heaven’s eternal days

VERSE 2

On the mount of crucifixion
Fountains opened deep and wide
Through the floodgates of God’s mercy
Flowed a vast and gracious tide
Grace and love like mighty rivers
Poured incessant from above
And Heaven’s peace and perfect justice
Kissed a guilty world in love

CHORUS

Oh how marvelous, oh how glorious
Is my Savior’s love for me!
Oh how marvelous, oh how glorious
Is my Savior’s love for me!

VERSE 3

Of Your fullness You are pouring
Your great love on me anew
Without measure, full and boundless
Drawing out my heart to You
You alone will be my glory
Nothing in the world I see
You have cleansed and sanctified me
You Yourself have set me free

CHORUS x2

Oh how marvelous, oh how glorious
Is my Savior’s love for me!
Oh how marvelous, oh how glorious
Is my Savior’s love for me!
